Vincenzo PATAMIA

Fixed-term Assistant Professor (RTDA) of Organic chemistry [CHEM-05/A]

Vincenzo Patamia earned his master’s degree in Materials Chemistry in 2018 from the University of Catania. In 2022, he earned an international Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from the same university. In June 2025, he was awarded the Junior Prize by the Interuniversity Research Center for Pericyclic Reactions and the Synthesis of Heterocyclic and Carbocyclic Systems, and in June 2026, he won the Heal Italia Foundation Prize for his exceptional scientific contributions, as evidenced by numerous publications. He is the author and co-author of 64 peer-reviewed publications. He is currently an Associate Researcher (RTD-A) at the University of Catania, and in 2026 he served as a visiting researcher at University College London (UCL), where he worked in the field of mechanochemistry and biocatalysis in Prof. Daniele Castagnolo’s laboratory.

Research focuses on the sustainable synthesis and functionalization of both natural and synthetic materials, prioritizing low-environmental-impact approaches such as mechanochemistry for the development of advanced systems. By employing organic chemistry as a versatile tool, the work spans several application areas: in the environmental field, focusing on the adsorption, release, and conversion of carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds (VOCs); in catalysis, with a specific emphasis on CO2 fixation and conversion, the study of metal-catalyzed reactions, and biocatalysis for selective transformations; and finally, in the pharmaceutical field, for the development of systems with antibacterial properties and targeted drug-delivery applications.
