Claudia DI GIACOMO
Claudia Di Giacomo graduated in Pharmacy.
- 1992 she gained her doctorate in Biology and Medical Biochemistry.
- 1994 she was employed as Universitary Researcher at the Chair of Biological Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Catania
- 2003 Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Catania, Department of Biological Chemistry, Medical Chemistry and Molecular Biology. until 1/11/2010 and Department of Drug Science from 2/11/2010.
- 2017 President of degree cours in Pharmacy, University of Catania
Her scientific research has principally been on the following areas of interest:
- Oxygen toxicity and scavengers of partially reduced oxygen species in several biological systems and physio-pathological conditions;
- In vivo and in vitro evaluation of biological activity of natural compounds and new synthetic drugs;
- In vivo experimental models of diabetes and of cerebral, renal and hepatic ischemia, in order to evaluate molecular mechanisms involved in tissue damages and for developing new therapeutic strategies;
- Role of oxidative stress and heme oxygenase in several physio-pathological conditions.
DIDACTICS:
- teaching of General Biochemistry (Degree Course in Pharmacy) from the academic year 1998-99 to date;
- teaching of Human and Applied Systematic Biochemistry (Degree Course in Pharmacy) from the academic year 2014-2015 to date;
- teaching of Chemical-Clinical Analysis (c.i. "Analytical methodologies and clinical diagnostics) (School of Specialization in Hospital Pharmacy) from the academic year 2016-17 to date;
- teaching of Chemistry and Biochemistry / Biology and Genetics Module Chemistry and Biochemistry 4 (Degree Course in Nursing -qualifying for the health profession of Nurse) from the academic year 2022-23;
- guidance and assistance to students as supervisor of compilative and experimental degree theses;
- effective member of the Jury of the final exam for the achievement of the title of PhD (PhD in Biochemical and Biomolecular Sciences XI, XII, XVII and XXIII cycle);

- Didactic tutor for students of the II level University Master in "Pharmaceutical and molecular diagnostics".
From 2008 to 2012 she was a member of the Board of Teachers of the PhD in "Neuropharmacology", established at the University of Catania and from 2013 to 2015 she was a member of the Board of Professors of the PhD in "Neuroscience", established at the University of Catania.
