Research interest:
The research interest of Prof Roberto Di Marco gravitates around the broad theme of host-parasite interaction, ranging in the consequential applications. A multidisciplinary vision and approach characterize his activity. For this reason, developed and set up pre-clinical models in vitro (microbial/cell culture) or in vivo (rodents) to study mechanisms of immunity, autoimmunity, host-microbiota interaction, and drug development. As part of the translational research activity, he also developed and validated "alternative" animal models (insects, gastropods) valid for the first step of screening new substances or extracts from botanical potentially used for therapeutic applications. More recently, thanks to several transcontinental collaborations and opportunities, he is starting to build a network for deepening the mechanism of pathogenesis of emerging vector-borne diseases.
