CERNUT - Research Centre for Nutraceuticals and Health Products

CERNUT, the Inter-department Center for Research on Nutraceuticals and Health Products, established on 23 December 2021, has as its main purpose to promote the multidisciplinary research on food supplements, "functional food", probiotics and on the nutraceutical properties of foods and plants through a scientific approach that demonstrates the possible benefits for human health.

Numerous researchers from various Departments of the University of Catania belong to the Center, each one with his own skills and expertise. The main lines of research aim at the analytical characterization of the active ingredients and at the identification of the role and effects of health promoting compounds with nutraceutical value in the contexts of wellness, aging, nutrigenomics and preventive medicine, using experimental models in silico, in vitro and in vivo and studies focused on the delivery & targeting of bioactive compounds.

The aims of CERNUT include:

• bring together experts in basic research and clinical research, whose results can contribute to improving the quality of life and health of the population
• collaborate with public and private Companies, Institutions and research bodies in the nutraceutical and health sector
• promote Third Mission activities, organizing educational and scientific dissemination events.
